The main form of
local transport is the dhoni, a traditional boat though now
run by diesel engines in Maldives. The bigger boats are called vedis are
used for long outbound trips to outer atolls. Safari cruises
in dhonis are increasingly popular, among tourists. Most
islands are so small that transport is not a problem, but
there are taxis, motorcycles and bicycles in the capital.
Helicopters and seaplanes are also used to transfer guests to
some of the remoter resorts.

Road Transport: Travel on most of the islands takes no more than
half-an-hour on foot.
Bicycles and motorbikes are popular modes of transport.
